The Songjiang Tram (松江有轨电车) is a light rail system in the Songjiang District, southwest of Shanghai. Opened in December 2018, it connects urban areas, residential areas, and universities, offering an eco-friendly alternative to urban transportation.

Lines and Stations

The system has two operational lines:

  • Line T1: Canghua Road ↔ Songjiang Railway Station (14.7 km, 17 stations).
  • Line T2: Circular line connecting key areas of the district (approximately 14 km, 20 stations).

In total, the system has a length of 39.4 km and 42 stations.

Timetables and Frequency

  • Operating hours: From 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Frequency: Every 5–10 minutes during peak hours.

The trams are operated by 30 Alstom Citadis 302 model units, each with a capacity for 300 passengers.

Fares

  • Basic fare: CNY 2 for trips up to 10 km.
  • Additional fare: CNY 1 for each additional 10 km.
  • Free travel: Children under 1.3 m accompanied by an adult.
  • Transfer discounts: CNY 1 discounts apply when transferring to buses, subways, or trams within a 2-hour period.

Shanghai public transport cards, QR codes (WeChat, Alipay), and transport cards from other regions can be used for payment.

Future Expansion

An extension of Line T2 to the west is currently under construction, which will add 7.4 km and 9 additional stations. In addition, Lines T4 and T5 are being planned, with a projected total length of approximately 150 km.

Metro Connections

The Songjiang tram connects to Line 9 of the Shanghai Metro, providing easy access to other areas of the city.
